cc hearts | SUMMERSIZE YOUR FALL LOOK

The leaves are changing colors and the temperature is dropping, but that doesn’t nessecairly mean that you need to put away your entire summer wardrobe. Some of your favorite summer clothing can still be worn in the fall by layering those chunky knit sweaters and heavy scarves on top. Thin cotton summer dresses can be worn over a white tank and layered with a heavier knit sweater or hoodie. Jean shorts can be worn over black tights and paired with some high slouchy boots or this season’s hot trend- combat boots.

Send us some pics of how you transition your summer wares into the “coolest” (yes, pun intended) looks of this cooler season.

trend spotting| COMBAT BABY

Last fall tall slouchy boots, riding boots and ankle booties were all the rage and although these shoes still get our stamp of approval, there’s a new shoe in town and she’s stomping all over last years styles. The Combat boot is a sure way to roughen up your fall wardrobe, adding that extra bit of edge to your ensemble. Wear them with a girlie dress for a rocker meets fun and flirty look, or leave the UGGS at home and try these militarized boots with jeans and a casual Tee.

p.s. Come summer, these boots will look awesome with cut-off shorts and flirty dresses!

cc hearts| JAR OF HEARTS

Christina Perri went from working at a coffee shop to having a hit song at the top 20 on itunes. This all happened within 2 weeks. Christina’s best friend knew a judge on So you Think You can Dance. The judge was looking for some new music for the dances on the show. The BFF made the connection and the dancers loved the song! Now Christina first song “jar of hearts” is an itunes hit. Christina has a unique voice and great song writing skills. “you’re gonna catch a cold, from the heart inside your soul” is one of her lines. Jar of hearts is just one song from this talented girl and trust me there will be more to come!

contests | CC DIY DIVA WINNER

This summer we challenged our CC Designers to submit some of their own Do-It-Yourself wears to CC.  The contest was to see how creative our girls could get with the materials they had at home.  Guess what we discovered?  Our CC Designers have some pretty original ideas! After some amazing submissions our DIY DIVA contest winner went to Elena, a Session I Designer.

Elena submitted over 10 clothing, jewelry and accessory projects to the contest, all handmade with love by Elena!  Her love for crafting, fashion and designing is inspiring.  Here is a little style profile on this oh-so crafty girl!

Favorite colour:  turquoise or pool blue
Favorite store: Century 21 or H&M
Favorite CC Specialty: fashion illustration
Your Personal style is:  fashionista-sporty-rock
My summer 2010 must-have: bangles!
What inspires me to create: events such as Christmas or Mother’s Day
Favorite DIY project I created: my blue clutch purse
My bff: Dilys Tong- you rock!!!

Elena shares a step-by-step to create her floral brooch:

1) Supplies needed: fabrics, felt, a glue gun and scissors.
2) Cut out petal shapes from the fabrics. The more the better!
3) Cut out a circle about the size of a loonie from the felt.
4) Cut out a circle about the size of a nickel from fabric.
5) Take your fabric petals and glue them in an overlapping pattern onto the felt. Leave a hole about the size of a dime in the centre of the felt.
6) Take the nickel sized fabric piece and fold it into a pleated shape. Glue it to the center of the felt.

Voila!  Now you have a flower that you can glue onto a bag or a bracelet or even a hair band!

Here are some pics of the CC DIY projects that she made this summer at camp!

Keep checking out the blog for some upcoming contests!  You may be profiled next!

trend spotting | In the Army!

Army prints and military styles have been marching their way to the stores this season.  Its all about the army greens and camouflage on jackets, pants, bags and hats!

Many celebs have been seen in  the JBrand army pants.  These military pants are a slimmer take on the cargo, embellished with pockets and zippers.  Paired with a baggy tee these perfect pants are great for a casual lunch or can be dressed up with a pair of heels.

Michael kors has also come out with a line of camouflage bags and shoes.

Check out these military styles- which is your fav?

trend spotting | THE BIGGER THE BETTER WHEN IT COMES TO RINGS!

The bigger the better when it comes to rings!  I’m not talking about the “girls’ best friend”- the diamond- I’m talking about cool, styling and fun rings.  Lately you can find huge rings like flowers, butterflies, bows, rosettes and more in magazines and stores.  Cocktail rings can make any outfit fun and flirty!  Check out these two links for a where to find guide if you are in the market for one of these dazzlers!

You can even make your own big ring at home.  At CC we made fun rings using fabric and sticky felt and from pressing fimo into flower molds.  These are a great accessory to any outfit!

What do you think about this trend?

cc fan mail | WHAT CC MEANS TO ME

There are absolutely NO words to describe how much I love craftyCOUTURE!  The things that we make are so incredible.  I didn’t even think it was possible.  When I show all of my family and friends they are so amazed and maybe even a little jealous ;)   Taking part in our end of session fashion show has helped me to become less shy and helped me have fun while I am on the runway. Another thing that I love about CC is that the counselors, specialists, and directors are outstanding!  They are so caring and so much fun.  They make camp become what it is.  I also love the theme days.  They are all so creative and fun to participate in.  I would recommend this camp to any girl that loves fashion!!

cc hearts | IN THE JEWELRY MARKETPLACE – MIX IT UP!

I did a bit of wireworking with the House of Gucci the other day during Session 2  of camp, and will do some with the House of Chanel and Dior this week, but in the meantime, here are some ideas to mix it up and get inspired by the projects we do here at camp!

PROJECT | LOLA EARRING

the LOLA EARRING

What about switching the bow for a rosette?

the LOLA EARRING | REMIXED!

Or a sparkly rhinestone?! (be careful with the hot glue!)

the LOLA EARRING | REMIXED!

PROJECT | SOPHIE EARRING

the SOPHIE EARRING

Instead of one big bead do a stack of smaller ones!

the SOPHIE EARRING | REMIXED!

Or instead cut down your headpin and attach one smaller bead to a dangling piece of chain.

PROJECT | GEMMA EARRING

the GEMMA EARRING

Change up the order! Hang a tassle of chains from your bead loop with a jump ring for a totally different feel.

the GEMMA EARRING | REMIXED!

Or maybe lose the chain altogether!

Do YOU have any other ways to mix up our ideas? Let us know in the comments!

Last session in Toronto, we had our CC Designers style and lay out their own photoshoot concept. They worked in groups of 3-4 and came up with a plan for the theme, styling, set, title and content for their shoot. The next day they all played various roles and executed their shoot. Some groups worked with the outdoor elements and some made good use of our camp location. Finally, they selected a photo to edit and use in their layout which they put together in Adobe Illustrator.

What do you think of our budding photographers, models, stylists, art directors and graphic designers?!

I’m thinking these layouts are ready for a fashion magazine!

cc hearts | ROCK IT!

You have probably seen Rock inspired clothing in stores.

A lot of the styles today are inspired by rock music.

Ripped jeans, leather, black, skinny jeans and metallic colors are all rock chic!

Your fav celebs can been seen rockin’ this look almost everywhere- Scarlett Johanson, Miley Cyrus and Blake Lively are all sporting the rock n’ roll edge.

Rock out your own wardrobe with these 4 tips:

1- Rip and wear out small areas of your jeans to give them a more worn and rough look

2- pull out your old jean jacket- its made a comeback!

3- Make a hippie style headband using old fabrics, feathers, chain and string- this will give you that hippie/rocker vibe

4- Skinny jeans are a must for the rocker look-if you dont have simply take in a pair of old straight legs or flares

What is your take on the Rocker Look?
